I have a Golden Retriever, he’s about 3 years old. He’s always barking at people when they walk down our street. It’s quite embarrassing. How can i get him to stop?
I’m curious, how many people have had success training a dog to stop barking without the use of a ‘shock’ or ‘spray’ collar? And how? Specifically?
Assume:
-The dog is adopted as an adult, and they already developed the habit.
-They only bark when you are gone, and you can’t be there to correct it.
-There is no barking while you are home.
-You must leave the dog alone 6-8 hours each day b/c you work.
-Neighbors report that the dog barks continually for the 6-8 hours, (either the incessant attention-getting or guarding type)
I’m really very interested. We encourage adopting adult dogs who need homes, but sometimes they come with a problem that is deeply ingrained. How do you help them to be quiet so they can stay in their home? Do you ever recommend an electric collar? As a much later option, isn’t it better than returning them to a shelter or re-homing them to a family that will probably have the same issue?
Those who swear it can be done, PLEASE enlighten us! ![]()
I volunteer at an non-profit animal shelter and the dog I work with is a little 5 year old dachshund named Farley. Every time I take him out for a walk, he will walk a little bit, and will suddenly stop and not move. Jerking on the leash hasn’t been working and I am having to carry him. I was wondering if there were any ways to make the leash a "good thing" rather than a "bad thing" I want to be able to walk him in order to establish a better bond.
my dog fights and terrorizes other dogs and cats. wat can i do to stop this madness?
i am dog sitting this dog and he keeps barking! we already got a complaint and i don’t want any more so i want him to stop barking! like yelling at him, or what?!

Rounder, a Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue, learns how to put his toys away. I don’t usually do “how to” videos, but I’ve had a few requests for this one, so here it is . You can see Rounder’s enthusiasm for clicker games. He makes me smile.
If your dog already knows how to retrieve toys, I recommend back chaining this. Start with releasing the toy to your hand. Then, put the basket under your hand. Slowly fade your hand and then slowly move the basket away. If your dog doesn’t know this, give it a try and post a video response. I hope your dog has as much fun learning this as Rounder did.

She has separation anxiety I think. She whines and barks and I don’t want to annoy my co-workers. Can I hide outside and giver her a shock when she barks? What else might work?
Also. My dog is only one of many dogs in our building. Almost half of all the people there have dogs and bring them to work. Based on some of the responses I’ve gotten (dogs don’t belong at work, etc), many of you can’t do this or have never seen anyone do this, which is pathetic.
would it be okay to use a bark collar on my dog when he sees another dog walking by our house. i know alot of people use them for seperation anxiety or when people visit, but mine only barks when another dog is walking by. i wouldnt usually like to use these kind of devices, yet its getting to the point where he turns around and gets aggressive towards me if i try to grab his collar while hes on one of his barking sprees (showing teeth, biting, etc.). Thanks.
