My dog a white haired terrier which I have heard its their nature to bark. So I looked up on this and it said that it usually occurs if they are outisde, hungry, or lonely. Well I know that my dog is having neither of these problems.

She also likes jumping on people, especially when there is company over.

How can I train her to stop doing both of these behaviors, and with dedication how long will it probally take?
Also, she usally barks whenever she sees any kind of movement like-
People, animals, or sometimes the voice of car doors and people. Thanks

I have tried spraying water, rattling cans, sectioning the windows off, getting him to sit on a lead when people come to the door, he is trained on a lead and does all commands like sit and lie and give paw, but if someone is near the house he ignores me and if I stand between the door and try to stop him he will even warning bite me. He is not allowed upstairs or on furniture, I feed him last, he walks behind me on a lead (with me fighting for front position).
He is an Alpha that won’t let me be boss – I can’t physically hold him down as he is big and will bite (enough to warn me).
Unless I have a battle with him and win he won’t give up the throne – please help. He’s not dangerous unless barking – but I do put the kids in a different room if someone comes to the door and he has a barking frenzy. When he stops barking he is apologetic and sorry. Trainers have given me the above advice. No-one in our family gets left behind so I will train him rather than give him up or kill him!
I tried a sonic noise machine too – he ignored the noise and carried on barking. I won’t electronic shock him – I don’t believe in hurting animals – but I will be the Alpha – I will I will I will !
Barking outside isn’t the problem – it’s inside because of his aggression when he barks – he gets walks – this is about being too protective over the kids. He once howled when he thought a midwife had stolen the baby.
Thanks Cadsuane – I was wondering why the dog whisperer techniques did not work for me. This dog is trained – he does all commands – I agree this is not a training issue this is behaviour.

I’m wondering if anyone has gotten one of these, what do you think of them?

Is there a less expensive collar that works just as well? I’m not a huge bark collar fan, so I don’t want to spend money on a non-effective cheap collar – I know he does not respond to scented ones.

I don’t want to leave my dog inside when the weather is nice and we are gone. Problem is, he constantly barks at the neighbor lady, even when we are home. I can give him a no bark command when we are home, but not when we are gone. She loves being outside in nice weather as well, and I don’t want my dog bothering her constantly.

Note for those who read too much into posts: I stay at home – when I am gone refers to times I take my kids to the store/ a friends house – usually a few hours every couple/ few days. I’m not leaving him alone outside with a barking collar for 10 + hours a day. His barking is not a boredom thing – he’ll do it when we’re all happily playing together, just to get this neighbor’s attention.
Ya know, I was going to let it go – people have their opinions and that’s fine. However, I find it crueler to leave a high energy large dog inside a small house/ crate than I am worried about something happening to him if left outside for a few hours.
He can always escape into the locked garage if someone decides to risk scaling the fence to corner him, although I’m not sure how they’re going to lift a struggling 90 lb dog up over the locked gate to get him out, but I guess I can see them throwing him an arsenic laced t-bone as a second choice… Ah well, to each his own, do what you want with your animals. I prefer to be kind and allow mine to run and enjoy his time apart from us. Perhaps your neighborhood is more chancy than mine, so I’m not judging your choices/ decisions – just thinking about the possibilities.

my dog is 1 year and 3 months old and she literally barks at everything, noises, the t.v, anything that that has animals or animal sounds, plus she barks at reflections in mirrors and windows and even when i say no, she will stop for a few seconds and start again, i know she is protective but it is getting to the point where it is horrible, she wakes me up early in the morning by barking, and it is getting to the point where i cant even watch tv anymore without her barking! oh and i like country music and sugarland is one of my favorite bands, apparently she doesn’t like jennifer nettles voice because she does nothing but howl when i listen to it! is frustrating…oh and she is a small dog, a mix of chihuahua, wiener dog, and pekingese, so her bark is really sharp and loud! she actually is a quick learning dog, and for the most part she listens really well, any other thing i tell her no to, she listens but idk what it is about the barking! is there anything i can do?

My dog has recently begun to howl like crazy. If I don’t find someway to make her be quiet at night, my dad will "get rid of her." So I purchased an anti-barking collar that defers the dog from making noise by spraying her w/ this harmless stuff. It’s suppose to work for howling as well.

Problem is that it’s not spraying her. Yes, she’s pretty fluffy. But she can be loud and the sprayer isn’t even hitting her fur or doing anything it’s suppose to. I tried it myself (by giving multiple loud shouts & barks into the device), & nothing happened. The only time it seemed to spray was when you blew really hard into the device, which really doesn’t help anything.Does anyone know what’s wrong w/ it? It’s a petsafe deluxe kind, & it isn’t one of those cheap ones either. & I made sure it’s on as well when using it. Some people may say her fur may be the problem. However, the device said that you can put a bandana over the fur. But this is done so that the spray will actually hit her chin (& not for the sake of the device to pick up the sound & vibrations). & that still doesn’t explain why it didn’t work for me.

Any ideas as to what is going on?Also, do you know if those ultra high pitch frequency boxes work on loud animals? Or is there anything else that’s actually effective that you can recommend. Just FYI, my dog is not a small dog (she’s like medium husky or German Shepard size).

Taking Kira for a walk with her leash and harness. She did great! She actually does walk and enjoys being outside and chasing squirrels and checking out everyone’s yards. :) Make sure you watch the end :) Background songs: I’m Walking by Fats Domino Stay Awake by Julie Andrews (From Mary Poppins)

I’m considering getting a sonic anti-bark collar for my dog, but am concerned about the effect it may have on the neighbours dog! While I want to stop mine from constantly barking, the neighbour’s on both sides have dogs that don’t have a problem and I’m concerned that the sonic correction may cause a problem next door while solving mine… Any advice on what effect sonic training could/may have on nearby animals… I have a small dog, and really would rather not have to go to a shock collar… From a GOOD Neighbour!

Ok don’t get me wrong I LOVE animals. I have 2 cat’s and a dog myself. However I am taking care of my bf’s dog while he is away at a job. I have a small place and his dog is HUGE. I have his dog that hogs my bed, sheds fur all over the place and barks non stop!! She is driving me crazy!! The dog is very lovable and always wants my attention, which drives me crazy because my own dog barely pays attention to me now because this BIG dog took over! I treat both of the dogs with love and give them treats and lots of attention. I am just sick of all the dog hair (my carpet after vacuuming is covered in her hair within 10 minutes) and the barking! Oh this dog also is used to living in the country where there is no traffic. I live in town and there is a lot of noise which is why she constantly barks. Also my poor cats are scared to death! They won’t come out of the bathroom, and the dog stares them down constantly and if they do come out the dog chases them and barks at them. The other day my one cat was lying on my bed and I thought it was odd that I didn’t see my bf’s dog for awhile. So I go upstairs to see why the dog was so quiet and here she was sitting by the bed stareing my poor cat down. Well the cat peed on my bed! Apparently my cat couldn’t hold it anymore and he was too afraid to get up and go in the bathroom because of this dog. My cat has NEVER done that before, has ALWAYS used the litter box. So I blame the dog for my cat doing that!
