My 1 yr old boxer barks for no reason at all. He doesn’t bark at normal things dogs usually bark at such as… a knock at the door. He only barks when the other dog is getting attention or he wants people food or just plain wants attention. But trust me this dog gets PLENTY of attention. He will do this so loud and go on for literally hours if you don’t raise your voice at him. I don’t know what to do, but this is making everyone go crazy. Any advice? (I don’t think too highly of bark collars though)

I have tried the high pitch sounding devices you can buy, nothing seems to work. Other than that she is a beaut, soft hearted dog. Never has actually bitten, but barks and chases the.

Every time anyone enters my friend’s house, even the people that live there, this annoying little Yorkshire Terrier gets excited or scared I don’t even know which, and pisses on the floor, and barks for like an hour. Even when we go downstairs from upstairs, she starts barking AGAIN! I’m sick of this dog barking and peeing I basically live at this friend’s house and no one in the house is pleased with this but no ones willing to train her (or wash her either, that dog looks grimy as hell) but I’m about to punch a wall. How can we get this dog to stfu!

I have a 8 month old boxer. I’m hoping to correct this behavior before it’s a habit. I know, naturally, he wants to protect me and his yard, which is wonderful, but he’s going overboard. The neighbors are going to start hating us! I’d like to teach him that 1 or 2 barks are ok, but then to trust that I can handle it from there. Suggestions?

Serious answers only! All morons will be reported!

She’s really aggressive to some dogs (although not all dogs), and if she’s off the lead she literally jumps on them. Luckily she’s not been bitten by another dog but even if I put her on a lead as soon as I see another dog she gets very agitated & barks & growls. I shout at her to stop & try to distract her but she ignores me. She listens to me at other times but if there’s another dog in the vicinity I don’t stand a chance!

Do anti bark collars like Innotek spray, Petsafe electronic collar or Dogtra no bark collars work for dogs that bark out of fear?
We have tried everything to stop our dog from barking at pedestrians during walks. She just goes crazy barking and wanting to charge them when she sees someone walking/jogging toward us. It’s like she wants to get them before they get her.
It’s really stressful and feel so bad for people who have to cross our path during their walks.
We have tried following techniques, and none seems to work with her. This is the reason I am thinking of resorting to the spray or electronic devices.

1) blocking her view
2) giving her treats
3) sitting her down and tapping her nose with a stern "NO"
4) spraying water
5) ultrasonic sounds
6) running fast by pedestrians
7) having pedestrian stop in front of her, she sniffs gives a few barks then she is ok until another pedestrian comes our way then the cycle repeats again.

We really don’t know what else to do. If anyone has any other techniques that has worked with their dog, I would greatly appreciate the advice. Also if these sprays or electronic devices work on dog that deter dogs that bark out of fear.
FYI: my dog is 15lbs terrier mix & very fearful, however, when in crowd of people like at a coffee shop, she is a mute and just wants me to hold her.

Also, debarking is not an option.
Note: I tried calming her down stroking her, telling her "no" in soothing tone for 3 days straight but that didn’t work for her either. I wished it did. :(

Since she’s started on Clomicalm for Separation Anxiety, she has shown some improvement in her crate- lately she has been howling and barking but hasn’t been trying to break out of the crate.

We were considering a bark collar even before this, as she always has barked when left home alone.

We have two other dogs, however, who do not bark, so we don’t want to get the type of collar which results in a high pitched sound when Sydney barks.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a specific type of bark collar and brand? I want it to be a high quality one, for obvious reasons.

Are Citronella bark collars effective?
Please don’t answer if you disagree with the use of bark collars or don’t understand how vocal Siberian Huskies are.

I know i’m going to get lambasted here but honestly is a shock collar all that bad? The ones made by Innotek, from what I hear, are very effective and are not at all inhumane. I’ve heard that putting on the collar in and of itself is a sign of punishment and the dogs get it right away that they will not be released until they quiet down. Also, once on, the dogs usually stop barking and rarely bark so the actual triggering of the shock is very rare. Saw a blog post about it here:

http://momoshihtzu.com/blog/best-bark-collars-for-shih-tzus/

The Innotek Automatic No-Bark Collar automatically sets its sensitivity to your shih-tzu’s barking level. In other words, it learns how your shih-tzu barks and adjusts the stimulation needed to prevent them from barking.

The stimulation used is not at all painful to your shih-tzu and only escalates if your shih-tzu does not stop barking immediately. It’s humane, unlike what most people mistakenly think. The extremity to which the shock occurs is similar to a static shock you get when you rub your feet on carpet on a very cold day with the heater on. It’s that kind of shock, not some thundering electric shock as most people think. It also adjusts so that if they bark once, the shock is small, if twice, bigger, so the dog ends up stopping before it gets worse.

The Innotek Automatic No-Bark Collar has a rechargeable battery, meaning you don’t have to constantly buy new (and often expensive) batteries. The rechargeable feature is absolutely convenient.

There were others we were considering, but we opted for the Innotek. Works really well for small dogs.

So she doesnt bite them, but she always runs upto them and like barks and growls at them which scares the crap out of them and me…
sometimes she jumps at them…
What can I do to get her to stop!? other then tying her up?
Wow, you guys are dicks. My dog dug her way out of my , yes i can spell it fenced backyard. She didnt bite anybody yet, but growls, and barks at them..

My 1 year old male Lhasa-poo barks at everything any little noise and its driving me insane, but i think a shock collar is wrong so i dont want to use one. Is there anyother way? Also when someone comes over he flips out (with love) jumping on there legs and gets annoying is there a way to stop it?
I dont mind barking when he needs to but i have to turn radios on so he doesn’t hear all the natural noises that our house makes.
One more thing every two weeks we go visit family in another state and step-father slaughters meat and our dog flips out and will not stop barking and growling at him if he is anywhere around could it be that he smells death on him or something? That is the ONLY person that our dog just hates. How can i get him to like him? Tryed treats and stuff but no good.
