My dachshund CONSTANTLY cries and howls when my 4 month old baby is crying. Even if she is cooing a little loud, the dog will howl, almost as if she is trying to be louder. I try to discipline her but now she hides under the table like she is scared and howls at the same time! I feel horrible for doing that but it is really stressful! Is there any way I can stop her from doing this??

I have a Beagle/ Dachshund mix who is 6 months old, and lately he has been barking a lot. I’ve tried everything to make him stop without having to use a bark collar, but the barking wont stop. I don’t really want to use a shock collar, so I was thinking of the other humane collars with the bad smell or bad noise. However, I also have 2 huskies and Im afraid that if I get one of the humane collars that the Huskies will have to suffer from the noise or smell too. Would they be able to hear/smell the humane collar on my little dog? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am asking this again because I got ZERO constructive responses last time.

My 1 year old Mini Dachshund is a terrible barker when she is outside. I bought a bark collar, but because of the protruding chest of Dachshunds it didn’t fit properly to produce the shock necessary to correct the action so I returned it.
The one I used was this one

Does anyone have suggestions about a better fitting one? I think the problem was mostly in the way the collar was one solid piece of plastic/rubber and didn’t fit snug around her neck.

I am okay with using the electric bark collars. It will only take a few times for her to learn. If I frequently exhibited a negative behavior and the only way to stop it was putting a bark collar around my neck then yes, I would do it. However, if the citrus ones work better for Mini D’s, then I would be happy to try one. Also, she is out unsupervised but is chained short enough so she cant leave the yard and she can’t slip her collar. She is also only out for 5-10 minutes at a time. If she is barking incessantly I do bring her in.

Don’t tell me how awful I am for using a bark collar, I really don’t care what PETA thinks in that category.

I volunteer at an non-profit animal shelter and the dog I work with is a little 5 year old dachshund named Farley. Every time I take him out for a walk, he will walk a little bit, and will suddenly stop and not move. Jerking on the leash hasn’t been working and I am having to carry him. I was wondering if there were any ways to make the leash a "good thing" rather than a "bad thing" I want to be able to walk him in order to establish a better bond.

Okay….so our dog is SEVERELY neurotic. We keep her in early in the morning, and late at night. And during the day when no one is home, we put her out in the yard so she doesn’t spend the day in the crate. And the times are…the middle of day. People are at, school, and at work…and like most dogs…she barks. When she hears things. Our neighbors are jackass’ and seem to feel that she shouldn’t bark at all. If she is going nuts barking, we bring her in. But our neighbors(pretty much just one jackass) have caused us to try and stop her from doing this. So we tried training it out of her.

We tried to scold her(not hitting) when she barks, and that didn’t work. So we tried the shock collar, it worked for a little bit but…she doesn’t seem to realize that if she stops barking…it stops shocking. And what we end up with is a dog running around, frantically yelping like she is being murdered. So she can’t wear it anymore.

We are running out of ideas! Anyone know how to help her stop?
She is a miniature dachshund, and we are NOT looking to give her a surgery to keep her from barking period. We don’t want her to not bark at all, sometimes it lets you know when something is wrong. We just don’t want her to bark at EVERYTHING.

And he is just a jackass. He does yard work a lot and the dogs bark. Plus, their screaming brats are FAR more annoying.

My little dog Lacey is the sweetest little Miniature Dachshund you have ever seen but there is just one big problem: her barking!

She barks at every car that comes up our street, barks at strangers and it is driving everyone nuts! Please, I don’t want to get rid of her. is anything we can do it make it stop?

Gypsy has RARELY played with toys since I rescued her 5 years ago. She has gotten more comfortable playing now.

I recently got a miniature dachshund, she is 1.5 years old and is the sweetest dog ever. Her previous owner said she had slight separation anxiety. Well it turns out it’s not slight, when i am getting ready for the day she will not leave my side, and is anxious. When I leave she is always standing at the door. When nobody is home we put her in the bathroom with blankets, a toy and her food and water, until we see how well she is potty-trained. I have a pet-taxi on the way to put her in. But she always barks and howls, when I leave. Even if someone else is home with her. How can i train her to stop barking and being so anxious when i leave the house. p.s. i’ve only had her for 3 days.
I already have a pet taxi, but my mother was using it for her dogs, i am an experienced dog/pet owner, and have always had an animal in my household. All i need is information on training, not on if i have a pet taxi now or not, but thanks for your concern.

the psycho dachshund keeps barking at the door (everytime someone knocks on it or rings the doorbell even when my family come home lol) if my mom walks in the door she will BARK/yip/yelp at the door until she sees who it is. i understand dogs bark at the door but jeez… and when the fone rings ( it isnt tht loud so it cant be tht it hurts her ears ) she goes insane for some reason. its annoying my mom. and my sister ( who owns the dog ) says tht its a dog thing.

plus.. our other dog (springer Spaniel) shes 9 years old. good dog. doesnt bark a lot. doesnt do anything wrong. doesnt tease the dachshund nothing. yet when they are together. the dachshund barks and snarls at her and bites her and pulls her ears until she yelps. (the Springer is an outdoor dog) so they arent always together and we got her a muzzle so she cant bite her but she still goes insane and tries to bite. what can we do about that?

also we would like her to stop trying to yelp/bark at people who come over. like the father of a baby were babysitting. or my brother. she knows them but everyday she seems to BARK and BARK and BARK and try to bite them. we want to make her stop tht.

any ideas?
she knows "sit, lay down, speak, roll over, shake, and "up" where she stand on her back legs. and also if my sister says "do you love me" she barks.
