here is a more better informed question of the one i asked my dogs a pug and is 1 to 2 years old he keeps on barking when no one is around and my mom gets tired of it and hits him he also now sometmes put the collor if you bark the collar will like kind of pinch him or something like that when we take it off he starts barking again why is bear (thats the name of my pug) keep doing this?
I have a poodle that just won’t stop barking whenever someone walks in front of the house, a leaf blows, etc. I told my mom that we should get a collar that shocks her when she barks (I think I’ve seen something like that…) My mom thinks it’s cruel, and I can’t say that I don’t disagree. Is there anything I can do to get my dog to stop barking?
Considering purchasing the Bark Limiter XS collar for my 1 year old terrier mix puppy and wondered if it can be harmful. Also do these really work? I don’t want to drop 0 for nothing.

By the way… my dog is exercised and has been through obedience training. She will play ball for 6 hours straight if I let her so her bad barking habits are mostly out of dominance and youth. I also grew up on a farm and my mom is a breeder, so please do not assume a person does not know what they are doing in asking advice.

Hi we are a family of a 7 month old beagle. We rescued him when he was 6 weeks old. He was only 2lbs when we got him, abused, under nourished and very sick. Well he is 18lbs now, very healthy and loves us and we love him to death. We have never had a dog before as I always knew the work would end up on me and as a mom of 4 children I knew it would be like having another child. Will it is……lol, but I LOVE him. My oldest son who is 16 has really bonded to him and he has become his primary owner. He is the one who baths him, brushes him, feeds, walks, trains etc. Our beagle loves my son so much and cries when he has to go to school out in the evenings. My son cannot even go to the bath room without the puppy sitting outside the door crying. He is “really” like a baby. If my son is sitting on the sofa with him, our puppy will climb up with a toy and then drop it on the floor so my son will pay him some attention and pick it up for him. Just like a baby right?
Anyway, I think because this puppy was taken away from his mother so young and being abused he has real separation anxiety issues. But we are dealing with this ok. He sleeps alone at night in a crate and is ok when we have to leave to go out, if we leave the TV on for noise. He is GREAT with our kids and kids in general, but BOY DOES HE BARK…………….
So this is my problem………. I know beagles are “barkers” and I am ok with this and having 4 children we are a noisy house anyway. He gets lots of exercise in the evenings when the kids are home and they take him for long walks and the kids LOVE to play with him. He is NOT an aggressive dog at all and loves people. So when we are out on a walk he will bark at EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY so very loud and you cannot get him to stop. Or if someone rings the door bell or knocks on the door, he is at it again with the barking. It is SO loud it actually hurts your ears.
I would like to learn how to train him to not bark so very much. I understand that he is a dog and a beagle and wants, actually needs to bark. But I was wondering if there was a way to control it so it does not go on so long. So if someone comes to the door he will bark for about a few seconds then stop.
I would LOVE to be able to send him to get “training” lessons from someone qualified, but unfortunately in this economy we cannot afford it. I was reading a lot about using an anti-bark or shock collar; has anyone ever used one? Any success with using them? Are they harmful to the dog? We will not use anything that will hurt our puppy and only want to be able to train him to be polite and well trained.
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks…..
Just wanted to thank everyone for the great advice!!!!!

I’ve tried teaching her not to bark when we let her outside in the backyard – I’ve tried calling her, bringing her back inside when she doesn’t listen -she usually only barks at night for some reason. My mom wants to buy a muzzle for her but i do not want to put a muzzle on here. Any ideas or products i can buy to help her/teach her to stop barking?

Every night my mom’s dog is keeping my family up with his excessive barking because I walk around at night. I’m not big on sleep. I stay up late a lot. So every time when I walk around even when I’m walking very, very quietly and no one can hear me, that dog does and he lets out a loud bark that wakes up the entire family. My question in short is how do I get my mom’s dog to shut up and quit barking when I’m walking around at night?

My dog is a Sheltie and is usually very hyper except for at night. My mom takes her on walks and I always play with her but it’s never enough. We also have a fenced in yard that she goes out into and when she sees a car she barks a lot unless she’s busy doing "buisness" she goes mentally insane if someone leaves too. We can barly get out of the door because of her! Help please, but also we have tried barking collars and they don’t help we do not want to hire someone to help with her.

the psycho dachshund keeps barking at the door (everytime someone knocks on it or rings the doorbell even when my family come home lol) if my mom walks in the door she will BARK/yip/yelp at the door until she sees who it is. i understand dogs bark at the door but jeez… and when the fone rings ( it isnt tht loud so it cant be tht it hurts her ears ) she goes insane for some reason. its annoying my mom. and my sister ( who owns the dog ) says tht its a dog thing.
plus.. our other dog (springer Spaniel) shes 9 years old. good dog. doesnt bark a lot. doesnt do anything wrong. doesnt tease the dachshund nothing. yet when they are together. the dachshund barks and snarls at her and bites her and pulls her ears until she yelps. (the Springer is an outdoor dog) so they arent always together and we got her a muzzle so she cant bite her but she still goes insane and tries to bite. what can we do about that?
also we would like her to stop trying to yelp/bark at people who come over. like the father of a baby were babysitting. or my brother. she knows them but everyday she seems to BARK and BARK and BARK and try to bite them. we want to make her stop tht.
any ideas?
she knows "sit, lay down, speak, roll over, shake, and "up" where she stand on her back legs. and also if my sister says "do you love me" she barks.

My dog is a puppy and still in training. Whenever I get pissed at him for peeing or pooping on the floor, or yipping, or asking for attention, I scream at him. I usually use a curse or two. Nobody is ever home but me and he annoys me soo much. I feel terrible because my mom got the dog for me, and I don’t even love him enough to be nice. I think I have anger management problems.
What will this do to the dog? Is it abuse? What could be possible personality consequences? Howdo I stop?
don’t get me wrong, I like the dog himself and I would be really sad if we gave him away,
Mylife recently had a lot of stress added and I’m easily aggrivated. I want to stop being abusive but I dont want to give him away.
