My dog will bark at us when we are watching tv or when he is in his cage after having gone to the bathroom. He gets a lot of attention so I don’t think that is the problem. I don’t want to resort to a muzzle but I don’t know what else to do.
He is a lab/boxer mix

She is 10 months old Aussie Shepherd and plays SO aggressive with other dogs, she won’t back down and will continue to harass other dogs, biting so that clumps of fur come out – this is much more than just open mouth play or nipping. She barks constantly, and tries to bully. Especially if another dog is less dominant she will really go after them. Other aggressive dogs have tried to pin her gently or show her how to play properly but she just gets up again and comes after them like gangbusters. Should I use a muzzle at the dog park? Help – other owners hate my dog and I don’t blame them :(
thnx DeeDawg for the answer but i only took her a couple times and haven’t since. I want to go back but know i cant until this problem is fixed. She has had basic obedience class and does well at home with all her commands, just with other dogs i have this problem. The Obedience class told me to hire a special aggressive dog trainer around here – but he is 0 for one session which i can’t afford. This is why i’m asking my question on this forum – what techniques would this trainer teach me? (this is not my first dog, i had an amazing well behaved dog that I trained myself, he passed at passed away at 9 years old from cancer :( thanks for any advice !
Thanx DeeDawg and Kelly – she was taken at 11 weeks so I’m not sure if thats an optimum time or not. Right away she was introduced of course to our family, kids, relatives and the first time someone came over with another dog she was terrorizing the poor thing so badly she had to be in her crate. Shortly after the dog park a couple of times when I kinda gave up on socializing until i had help.

i think i need a pro as well. gotta save the pennies i guess :)

the psycho dachshund keeps barking at the door (everytime someone knocks on it or rings the doorbell even when my family come home lol) if my mom walks in the door she will BARK/yip/yelp at the door until she sees who it is. i understand dogs bark at the door but jeez… and when the fone rings ( it isnt tht loud so it cant be tht it hurts her ears ) she goes insane for some reason. its annoying my mom. and my sister ( who owns the dog ) says tht its a dog thing.

plus.. our other dog (springer Spaniel) shes 9 years old. good dog. doesnt bark a lot. doesnt do anything wrong. doesnt tease the dachshund nothing. yet when they are together. the dachshund barks and snarls at her and bites her and pulls her ears until she yelps. (the Springer is an outdoor dog) so they arent always together and we got her a muzzle so she cant bite her but she still goes insane and tries to bite. what can we do about that?

also we would like her to stop trying to yelp/bark at people who come over. like the father of a baby were babysitting. or my brother. she knows them but everyday she seems to BARK and BARK and BARK and try to bite them. we want to make her stop tht.

any ideas?
she knows "sit, lay down, speak, roll over, shake, and "up" where she stand on her back legs. and also if my sister says "do you love me" she barks.

we have to crate him otherwise he will rip up the house but even we didnt crate him one time, he still barked. i have tried everything people said on here. includings toys, kongs, food, water, music, tv, radio everything! but he still barks. and he barks very loud as well. its annoying the neighbours. i’m not buying a bark collar or muzzle, they are cruel and too expensive
thanks if anyone can help me
he usually barks for 5 minutes very loudly and then stops. sometimes he’ll eat his food first and then start barking
i take him for walks everyday. i just came back from an hour long walk at the park and i needed to go shopping. i thought he would be too tired too bark so i was pretty sure. sure enough, i come home tom find him barking again
how do i stop it?
exercise doesnt even work!
we live in flats and the windows are too high up anyway. and he’s in a crate as mentioned last time

my dog barks a lot. mostly when some one walks in the front door. some times he wont stop until he tires himself out but that takes too long. my grandma says if he doesnt stop barking she’ll either make him wear a muzzle(which i dont want) or give him away(wich i really dont want). but even when we tell him to be quiet he’ll just get louder. how can i train him to stop barking when i tell him to?

I seriously need some help!!
I have 2 1/2 year olde english bulldogge who has a constant barking problem. She is a really super well behaved dog except for when she is in our back yard. We love to let her be out in the back yard during nice days so she can have some exercise and fresh air and to just enjoy the sun and all she does is bark bark bark bark bark, snarl snarl snarl, bark bark bark bark~~~!!!
We have really really nice neighbours who never really complain but there kind of old and the old mans wife is really sick and he said that she is driving his wife insane. They are very close neighbours to us and the only thing seperating us is a 6 foot chain link fence. He said that she can’t even go outside in his yard without her barking barking barking barking!!!
I tried a muzzle and she can drink, but than she can’t pant to release her heat. I tried a shock collar and it works while were around to shock her but after were gone to not do it….she goes at it again. I can’t take her to obidience because she is dog agressive somtimes.
Now don’t get me wrong…she may bark bark bark but she would never ever bite someone!! When she is in her house in the crate she does the same thing. If someone comes over she barks barks barks barks even if the kids run by the crate she will bark bark bark snap snarl growl but you let her out and she is 100% fine!! She does the same thing in the backyard When you let someone in she wags her stump 100 miles an hour and is the friendliest dog in the world, so maybe you could give me some suggestions that doesnt involve taking to obidience or training class because we have already wasted enough money on that!~

NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS PLEASE BECAUSE I DONT CARE! ONLY POSITIVE~ THANKS
I walk my dog everday 3 times a day!
Ha ha you guys are all so retarded.. you all act like I am doing something wrong with my dog lol She gets plenty of walks every day minimum of 3 times a day, she is well played with, loved and she has been through a multitude of obidience training classes. Money is not an issue at all, but the teachers usually kick us out because they are poorly educated trainers that can’t handle a hyperactive dog agressive dog. She gets along with lots of dogs, she just has her quirks with other one.

I didn’t ask this question to get a bunch of people up in my case thinking they know more about dogs than I do, I just simply asked what other approaches I could possibly take. So please save the wasteful critical comments for someone who gives a shit! I don’t think its the lady’s fault at all and I don’t think it is my dogs fault. My neighbours are old and don’t want to feed my dog treats but I think I might try the tredmill thing and run her on the tred mill in the morning

I don’t know what’s gotten into my dog lately, but he’s been barking NON STOP while we’re away. He NEVER used to do that. For the past month or so we’ve heard him whine loudly when we arrived home, but never full on barking. But tonight we came home and he was barking so loud, our neighbor came out and said he had been barking for the full hour we had been gone. I’m wondering about a muzzle. Do they only help with biting or do they keep the dog from barking as well? This is a VERY big problem for my husband and I since we live in an apartment complex. If the neighbors call the cops or animal controle we will either have to give our dog up or we will loose our apartment and the 0 pet deposit we paid. PLEASE let me know about any muzzles that are good.
PS: De-barking surgury is not an option for us. So please don’t answer with that.
***PLEASE…I don’t want to hear about how muzzles are inhumane for a dog. If they were inhumane they wouldn’t allow them on the market. If you feel that way, then keep it to yourself. I’m looking for serious answers only.***
Some have asked what kind of dog I have: He is a 2 year old male chocolate lab. Nothing has changed as far as the stress level in the house. He’s been in the same apartment since we got him as a puppy and he just roams around the house the same as he’s been doing is he was a baby. We’ve never had a problem with this before.
Also..My dog has TONS of toys (Kong toys included) to keep him busy. He also get plenty of exercise..he runs 2 miles with me every morning and every evening as well as multiple trips outside to play and run around.

I have a 7-month old male pit bull. He is the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen, but after my recent move he’s begun barking constantly when I’m gone. I give him enough exercise, attention, etc. My neighbors are total neurotics and scream at me even if he just barks once. I did have a dog sitter, but now that’s not possible for awhile.

Anyway, I’ve enrolled him in obedience traning but we don’t start still Saturday. What are some humane ways I can control his barking? I bought an electric bark collar, but I tried it on myself (I know, I’m nuts) and it hurt SO BAD. Not an option. I’ve heard that the sound and citronella collars don’t work well. So, I’m thinking about a muzzle, but how can I tell when I buy it if he will be able to drink with it on? What are some opinions on effectiveness, side effects, etc?

To reiterate, if I am at home he does not bark, I might have to prompt him once, then he stops. When I leave or he is on a leash, he’s a holy terror. HELP!
