My neighbors keep complaining about my Shih Tzu barking.
Now, they’ve said we’re required to make him wear a shock collar. I don’t like the idea of that at all, I think it’s cruel and I refuse to do that to my dog.
They shouldn’t be able to *make* me do anything to my puppy.
Is there any way out of this?
Thanks in advance. :]
My dog was not trained nor sent to obedience school when he was a puppy (he’s 3 years old now), and when we adopted him, he was pretty easy to train except for one area: he continues to bark like mad everytime he sees another dog. When we are walking, he cannot control himself but he will tug and TUG while whining and barking at that other dog (while the other dog ignores him!).
This is also a problem at home, because he frequently barks at other people or dogs from our living room window. How can I train him to not bark so often, outside AND inside?
Thank you very much for your time and assistance ^ o ^ ~
Dogs barking whining and other such sound effects and noises. download at soundbible.com We have a great collection of dog sound effects (mostly barking as that seems to be what dogs do best at least my neighbors dog thinks so). Comments welcome, thanks.
My dad wants to put a shock collar on my 3 month old puppy because she won’t stop barking! I keep telling him that he shouldn’t do that and its not right for her but he won’t listen. Please give your honest opinion on shock collars for this situation. The person with the most back up on what they think will get the 10 points. Thanx.

I am crate training my two month old puppy i put him in and he goes right to sleep but around three in the morning he will start howling and barking again so i take him out to go potty and bring him back in and put him in the crate. But he wont stop howling and crying i know he needs to go every three hours but when i put him back in his crate he wont stop i have tried everything the clock a warm water bottle everything but it just wont work. I have hardly got any sleep at all and i know my neighbors are getting fed up with it to. I am thinking about getting a bark collar but dont want to hurt him is it safe to get one or do they just harm the puppy?
I’m going to be a new puppy mama in 3 weeks, I’ve done lots of research, but I wanted to know what toys your dogs like. I already know about the kong, and yes I am getting one, are there any other really good ones that I should know about??? Thanks for all your help and suggestions! If you have any tips or advice on new puppies I would love to hear it!
I have a 5 month old puppy who seems to like to bark a bit too much. She barks to demand things… like her toys or food we are eating. She barks at people walking up to our building as she sees them through the window. What can I do to get her to lay off a bit?
We are fostering a dog and he is very sweet but he barks so much so loud. The dog we own used to bark at the beginning when he was a puppy, but it was easy to train him out of it. This dog is an adult and was abused. He is great with everything else, but he is not responding to the no-barking training. He is also causing my quiet dog to start barking again.
I am thinking a bark collar is the only solution. What kind do you most reccomend? I do not really like the idea of a shock one, but I understand there are other types. Do they work just as well?
I only do not like the idea of shocking this dog because of its past, but I would use it. I would rather him be with me and my home for awhile than sitting in a shelter.
Ok, so we got the him way back when he was a puppy, and we kept him in a cage. The very first time we tried to take him out of the cage and put a leash and collar on him so we could take him for a walk, he got so excited that he started running in circles. This accidentally wound the leash around his neck, almost strangling him. It was a bit graphic.
It’s been nearly 2 years and clearly, the event traumatized him because he has not wanted to come out of his cage ever since – even though the cage has gotten a bit small for him. The poor thing looks so depressed and quiet, but whenever we tried to open his cage to take him out, he would become really aggressive and would start barking at us ferociously.
What should I do to help him overcome this? I have hesitated from talking about this to animal care centers for fear that they might want to put him down.
Thanks in advance.
